I live in a large metro area (D/FW) and it's not unusual at all for me to get 2" of rain in the same summer storm that dropped nothing at a nearby "official" weather station. In my previous neighborhood, I'm reasonably sure about 50% of the houses were using my data to run their sprinklers. I feed my data (via Meteobridge) into PWS so my sprinkler system can see it, and Weather Underground for my own convenience. Not ideal, but it works for what I want it for (feeding data into a smart irrigation system). I don't care all that much, so mine's about 12' up, next to an 8' shed. Good enough is relative - the higher you can get it probably the better, if you're interested in accurate wind speeds. I went from a Davis to a first generation Weatherflow to a Tempest.
